Find the upper abs and tools to work deeper in the core so that your neck never grips or grabs.
This is key because of how much Pilates matwork has you holding your head up off the floor. Learn to hold it from the upper abs/powerhouse and not from the neck muscles where there is strain. Tips on using the arms and curling higher - or using a pillow/prop to keep the head down on the mat.
