“I found Brooke 12 years ago in a tiny pilates/acupuncture studio in downtown Asheville. 25 people crammed into the studio for this sold out class called Chisel. I was like ‘what is all the fuss about?’, and one class was all it took for me to understand. After that first chisel class, I was hooked.
My core became stronger, my balance and flexibility much better and my overall posture improved. Brooke’s chisel class was a game changer for me in my health and fitness regime.
I was a professional whitewater kayaker competing nationally and internationally for 10 years prior and my training included strength, stretch, and cardio. I had done Pilates equipment and mat classes a few times over the years but it never really stuck because honestly, it felt too slow and boring for me.
One day Brooke asked why I only take Chisel and never went to mat or equipment classes. I said those are too boring and I don’t feel like I get a good workout. She laughed and said ‘come try my mat class and see what you think’.
That mat class kicked my butt and showed me how beneficial a “simple” mat class could be.
When I tore my ACL and was facing surgery, Brooke worked with me on a recovery strategy that included acupuncture and Pilates. I had acupuncture a few hours after surgery and did not need any pain meds that the doctors insisted I would need.
I was back in class a week after surgery with my brace on and Brooke worked with me on the modifications so that I could continue classes in the brace. I continued weekly acupuncture and pilates for a few months and my recovery was incredibly successful. My surgeon continually commented that my knee was healing faster than expected - I told him it was all the acupuncture and Pilates.
I am forever grateful for Brooke and her amazing program that includes Chisel, Pilates and Acupuncture. It is woven into my life and I am stronger, longer and healthier for it!
